Tournament Safe Space, Inclusion & Conduct Statement

The Wet & Wild Water Polo Invitational is a proudly inclusive and affirming space centred on the 2SLGBTQAI+ community, and we welcome allies who share our commitment to respect, inclusion, and belonging.

We are committed to providing an atmosphere where all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, race, ethnicity, ability, body type, age, religion, or background.

In the context of ongoing national and international debates and restrictions affecting the participation of transgender athletes in sport, the Vancouver Whiskeyjacks Water Polo Club affirms its unequivocal support for transgender and non-binary athletes. The Whiskeyjacks are committed to ensuring that all athletes are welcome to participate and compete in the sport they love, in alignment with their gender identity, without discrimination or exclusion.

Participant Expectations

 All participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect at all times, both in and out of the pool

  • Use inclusive and affirming language, including respecting names and pronouns

  • Refrain from discriminatory, harassing, threatening, or abusive behaviour

  • Avoid actions or comments that demean, exclude, or marginalize others

  • Comply with directions from tournament organizers and officials when conduct concerns are raised

Consequences

Any violation of this policy may result in the removal of an individual or team from the tournament and/or referral to relevant governing bodies, at the discretion of the tournament organizers.

Tournament organizers may also pause a game in the event that a spectator needs to be removed for failing to meet the Participant Expectations.  Please share these guidelines with all attendees connected to your club.
