Who are the WhiskeyJacks?

The WhiskeyJacks Water Polo Club is an adult (18+) water polo team that centers 2SLGBTQIA+ players and welcomes allies.  We are located in Vancouver, British Columbia, and we acknowledge that these are the unceeded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations.

Our weekly practices are coached, with skill developing drills followed by fun scrimmages.  Beginners are welcome, and our team is a mix of experienced and novice players.  Our coaches and club executive are members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

We have opportunities each season to scrimmage with other local teams, and attend tournaments in the Lower Mainland and around the world!

Swimming Upstream

Before 2022, the WhiskeyJacks were known at the English Bay WhiskeyJacks Water Polo Club. The lengthy name came from our shared membership with the English Bay Swim Club, and the location of our practices. Before the WhiskeyJacks the English Bay Water Polo Club was Vancouver's LGBT Water Polo Team. The original club operated for 15 years from 1989-2004 participating in international competitions, and hosting fundraisers to support the community.

10 years after the English Bay Water Polo Club dissolved, the English Bay Whiskey Jacks Water Polo Club formed as a recreational club at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre. Below you'll find a timeline of key events in the histories of the English Bay Water Polo Club and the English Bay Whiskey Jacks Water Polo Club.

As of 2022, WhiskeyJacks have opted to drop English Bay from our name. We are registered as a separate society and not a continuation of the original club. This distinction is important to members of the community and members of the original club.
